Recycling Facility Class Trips

Recycling Facility Class Trips

Come and see what happens to everything you throw away, and learn how you can help look after your waste and the environment.

See the MRF in action

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE FULLY BOOKED FOR VISITS TO OUR SITE FOR THE SUMMER TERM. We can take bookings now for the autumn term 2017/18.  We have very limited availability for in-school workshops in July only.

At our Education Centre pupils from the age of 5 or staff groups can see our Materials Recycling Facility  in action.  Pupils will explore the history of waste and learn about the energy wasted by throwing away items rather than recycling them. They will see rubbish lorries tipping their loads, and get up close to our container cranes loading rubbish onto barges on the Thames. Pupils are then provided with practical information on which materials can be recycled and see how this happens.  They will learn the importance of the 3Rs - reduce, reuse and recycle, and find out what they can do to put them into practice.

The trip can be extended to include a hands-on paper recycling activity where each pupil will make their own piece of paper. Or for KS1 we can produce our own recycled instruments to shake along to our recycling song.

If you want to find out more about the class trip, practical details for the day and how the trip can link to the curriculum please download our teachers guide.

Class trips are FREE OF CHARGE and available for all schools in the boroughs of Wandsworth, Lambeth, Kensington and Chelsea and Hammersmith and Fulham. We cannot offer trips to schools outside these boroughs.

To book a visit please email education@wrwa.gov.uk or contact Liz Horsfield (liz@wrwa.gov.uk or 020 8875 8889) or Jon Long (jon@wrwa.gov.uk or 020 8875 8885) during school term time.

If you can't come to us, we can also visit you to deliver assemblies and workshops in school
