CLOSURE OF HOUSEHOLD WASTE AND RECYCLING CENTRES (HWRCS)

The Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs) at Smugglers Way and Cringle Dock are  closed but we are making plans for a reopening and, once a date has been agreed, it will be advertised on www.wrwa.gov.uk.

Our constituent councils will issue guidance on disposal of excess waste.  Thank you for your patience and understanding and please check your borough websites Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea, Lambeth, Wandsworth and Westminster for updates and further information.

HOUSEHOLD COLLECTIONS

At the present time, household recycling and waste collections continue as normal across the Western Riverside area and we will be supporting our colleagues at the borough councils to enable these to continue. We would ask residents to be sensible about their waste production and please:

  • minimise your waste as much as possible
  • home compost what food and garden waste you can
  • do not put out waste for collection that can sensibly be stored at home i.e. don’t clear the shed, attic, etc. and please delay any major DIY works

We also have limited PPE equipment for new cash customers so we will be giving priority access to vital local businesses.

Avoiding contamination of recycling with other substances is now more important than ever as it will help protect our waste operatives and allow them to do their jobs safely.  It is essential that you only put clean and dry recyclable paper, glass, cans, jars, pots and tubs in your co-mingled recycling.

We would advise you to check any information or updates given by your local borough council and check their websites for details of any impact to collection services.

COVID-19 UPDATES

The Government has issued advice about disposing of rubbish should you have a confirmed or suspected case of Covid-19 in your household.  Used tissues and disposable cleaning cloths should be put into a rubbish bag. The bag should then be put into a second bag and tied securely. You should then wait 72 hours before putting it in your outside bin.

You are able to dispose of other household waste as normal.

For more information please see the Government Guidance.
