To celebrate WRWA are hosting a fully funded Visible Mending workshop with isifiso, available to residents of Lambeth, Wandsworth, LBH&F and RBKC on the morning of the Tuesday 13th October.
Learn to mend with intention. Sashiko is a Japanese embroidery technique that turns repairs into something worth showing off. In this hands-on session, you will work on a fabric sampler using running stitch patterns and leave with the skills to mend at home. Often called “Kintsugi for clothes” — the art of making repairs beautiful. No sewing experience needed. The session is beginner-friendly and open to all abilities. Bring a garment to work on if you have one. Jeans, cotton jackets, sweatshirts, and canvas bags all work well. Avoid anything stretchy, slippery, or woolly – think leggings, chiffon, or chunky knits. If you don’t have anything to bring, no problem. Samplers are provided.
What to bring:
Bring one of the following to work on (recommended, but optional) A pair of jeans or a jean jacket or something similar, Cotton or canvas garment, Sweatshirt or jogging trousers.
What to avoid:
Garments that stretch like leggings, Slippery like chiffon or polyester, Woollen jumpers and socks, Outdoor jackets.
