The Western Riverside Waste Authority (WRWA) and its four constituent councils have launched a bold new plan to tackle waste and recycling across the boroughs of Hammersmith & Fulham, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Lambeth, and Wandsworth.

The Joint Resources and Waste Strategy 2025–2040 sets out a shared vision for the next 15 years: to reduce waste, cut carbon emissions, and make the most of the materials we use every day.

Developed over two years with input from residents, businesses, and elected members, the strategy focuses on working together to create cleaner, greener communities. It includes four key action areas:

  • Moving towards a circular economy, where waste is designed out and materials are reused
  • Reaching net zero carbon emissions from waste services
  • Improving communication and collaboration to boost recycling and reduce contamination
  • Delivering value for money while preparing for future challenges

The strategy also includes “stretch targets” to push performance even further—such as increasing recycling rates and reducing the amount of waste sent for disposal.

The plan will be reviewed every year to track progress and make sure it stays on course. You can read the full strategy and executive summary here.

Together, we can build a future where waste is seen not as a problem, but as a valuable resource.
